Well sorry about the forecasted weather we are headed down the Hatteras for a week starting Thursday and well looks like we will be sitting on the hill based on the forecast.

In order to come up with some other options instead of going offshore (30' CC) anyone have any suggestions on areas in the sound/inlet to fish for reds, flounder etc. never fished inshore there. Thanks.

we did ok on the flounder and sea mullet last year at Hatteras during May. The main area that we did the best on the flounder was drifting from the ocracoke ferry dock around the back side of ocracoke to the inlet. There are usually sea mullet hanging out in this area also with the most concentrated of them around the green bouy at the ferry channel in the same location. We also caught flounder drifting the channel around the last red can coming from hatteras toward ocracoke the long route like the ferry takes. Shrimp, squid, and cut bait worked for us, but if you take a small cast net and happen to find some live minnows that would be best. I know a lot of other people also fish right around the end of Hatteras Island in the "shortcut" to the ocean. I would definitely talk with the folks at Teach's Lair. They are very helpful and might can steer you in the right direction. The cobia are also just starting to show up, but if I had to guess, they are probably still in the ocean right now. There is a ton of water to fish that should be holding some flounder and drum, these are just a few of the areas that I normally end up fishing. If you would like further information feel free to PM me your number, and I will be glad to help with the limited knowledge that I have. Not many people on this site fish the Hatteras area, but I love it down there!! Good luck!!

Try some Berkley Gulp too. I have done well with them around the inlet area as described by Stimy. I use the 4" swimming mullet style on a jig head.
