I really like the real time weather. I can even see weather across the country as well as the direction it is heading. I set up the lightning alert to notify me when there is lightning with 20 miles. I think the SST info lags. I also have the Sirius radio so I can listen to the music I like while offshore and not have to worry about music on my iPad or iPhone.

Weather is pretty good, you can see approaching storms from way off. SST not so good.

I love having the stereo

I went with 3G radar for radar and am happy with my choice. More useful in fog and dark.

The SST was sirius big selling point for me. Looks like I'll just be mounting a radar. Thanks for all the input.

I can't find it now but I used to have a pic of storm cells going around me while fishing the US Open a couple years ago. Was good to have that ability with the 3G, plus I can the Waterway from Southport to Ocean Isle in the dark using radar only. Can't do that with Sirius.

SST isn't that bad its normally pretty close to real temps as far as what I've experienced. In May when looking for hard breaks its generally pretty close especially when the sky has been clear and its able to get good shots. If its been cloudy for a few days may not be too good but that's true with any SST service.

I'll echo what most have said. Weather is awesome. It has saved a few trips where storms were on the break but we could see they were moving off. The SST is not very good. It's decent early or late when there are fairly large temp breaks but other than that it's practically useless. It's very pixelated and hard to pinpoint a break. This time of year though it can typically get you within a mile or so of it

I used the radio more than the weather, but its nice knowing you can check the weather if you need to.

SST is great for spring/early summer fishing on the break. Yes it is not exactly accurate(alot of pixelation when zoomed in), but it will give you a general idea of where the warm and cold water is. We have found that it is pretty accurate for temps, this past weekend it was showing 75/76 on sst and actual was 75-75.5. Night before SST showed warm water right on break, but while on way out we saw the warm water had pushed inshore via sirius SST. So we stopped way before normal to make sure we fished the temp break, and sirius had temp break marked almost perfectly...i'd say maybe 1/10 mile off if that much. Most of our fish came from this break in fairly shallow water.

It has saved the day for us numerous times. It is not very useful in the summer/early fall, but great when there is hard temp change at break.

If SST isn't a concern, get the least expensive Sirius/XM package. Turn it on when you power up the boat, you'll soon have a continuous loop. Suspend for up to 6 months if you don't fish winter ...

Not sure what size boat you have, but radar is not likely the complete answer. If I remember right, I get about 50 miles of radar coverage, but when thunderstorms are around, we need to see further inland than that. Having both radar and satellite weather provides a much clearer picture so that we can head for the hill by looking at storms as far inland as Goldsboro for example. The combo of both is what I like.

Don't do it.. I bought the sirius weather offshore package specifically just for the SST overlay. I thought for sure it was going to be a game changer for gaffer/marlin fishing...oh boy was I wrong. The SSTs where so incredibly inaccurate; not even exaggerating it was 10 degrees off.

I will say I called sirius back and not only did they refund me but they gave me a discount on sirius xm radio just because I was so unhappy with their weather package. Do I wish I could return my WM3 module? YES, but it is already mounted so I suppose I will keep it on the T-Top in hopes that maybe someday they will figure out how to get accurate SST's.

If you want reliable and accurate SST's use rip charts or Bluewater super map.

I agree it's not that great for SST but for seeing and dodging pop-up showers and T-storms it's been a useful tool. My radar does not see lightning and doesn't see what's coming from a longer distance that tells me when it's time to head to the hill. I wouldn't be without it more than 20 miles offshore from May through September. Radio is a bonus.

I had the LWX-1 and thought it was ok for SST, but not fully accurate, but got me in the area. Weather was excellent and helped me steer through a tough storm once finding the weakest part of it and punched through.
I now have the newer WM-3 and hoping for it to be an improvement. Will find out if a few weeks when I commission it. No one was ever able to tell me if it was better than the LWX-1, but did hear the graphics were supposed to be better.
