What type of fish is this? It was caught in North Carolina. I am from the Gulf Coast of Florida and am not familiar with this fish.

Here is the explanation as to why it looks strange, from my cousin.

"It was not iced fast enough. We gut all of our fish and ice them in an ice and saltwater slushy to cool them super fast. "
