Reefcast which was calling for less is now calling for 10-15 and NWS which had called for 10 -15 is now calling for less

We are heading Southeast from Southport and will be NE of the tower about 10 miles and monitoring channel 16

forecast for Thursday and Friday has gotten worse as today rolls on. Ensemble shows disagreement between models, with latest being 4 footers instead of 3 footers at the stream. Makes a big difference for most 20 something center consoles. We are still going, but bringing bottom gear as backup in case it is too rough. Be safe and catch em up

We have decided to not go and stay in and watch the 1st round of the PGA Championship. I just have a feeling about the forecast. Since we aren't going, I bet the bite will be on fire. I will watch the reports. Catch'em up.

We went... exited the Cape Fear River and decided it was going to be sporty but decided to try anyway.

Crossed the shoals and headed about 25 miles to one of my favorite grouper spots. Seas were 4 feet at my guess 4 seconds and white caps everywhere... it was rough. Plus the current was ripping too due to the full moon.

Drifting too fast to catch anything but grunts so we dropped the anchor and got into the beeliners pretty heavy although they were all small 9 - 12 inch fish.

After about a half an hour on the anchor, my partner got sick. Half hour later he is sick again so we pulled them in and headed directly into the waves for a slow ride home. I think we were back at the dock before noon

Darn it, I sure hate to call a trip early for someone getting sick. I feel if I had gone out with the crew I had planned, in mid have had to rerun to port early also.

Forecast was great, 2-3' every 10 seconds, so we took off work to fish Thur.
Out Beaufort and to east side of CL shoals, then south. Started in about 100', got a nice mahi to the boat but broke it off. Boated another. Trolled out to the Big Rock, nothing doing, trolled back into 90' break. Pickup up two more on a broken weedline, and that was it.
As usual, actual weather was not the light and variable, 2' every 10 seconds as forecast, but was more like 15kts and 3-4' every 6 seconds or so. Was supposed to turn out of the North so we ran into the Cape early afternoon while the ride was still smooth and picked up some Spanish and blues. Soaked the blues for cobia in Barden's but no takers.

We tried it out of Beaufort Inlet. I believe they got the nail on the head about the 4@12 but missed the 3@5 in between. We were headed for the Swansboro Hole which put us nearly straight into the waves. Wife appeared to start not feeling too great a half hour or so in, about Big 10 range she went to put her phone in the cabin so it wouldn't get wet or broken and came back totally sick. We pushed on and she was trying to fight it but right after we passed the U352 I decided auto pilot probably wouldn't be able to hold course well enough at troll speed for me to get lines out and she wouldn't be able to help being sick at the time so I made an attempt to turn it into a bottom trip and headed toward 14 bouy area. Well it was still too rough for the wife to get any relief so we headed back, which was a much nicer ride than the way out since we were turned almost running the trough all the way.

Rough as heck but put lines in a little north of the 90ft drop. Had first gaffer in 10 minutes, then another about 10 minutes after, then not a sniff. Trolled out toward the Big Rock but no takers so turned it back toward the 90. Got back to where we started and it was scattered weed hell. Had two rods go off and was false albacore. Got tired of the rough seas and headed toward the bottom but the drift was too fast and didn't feel like setting the anchor in the rough stuff. Still managed a fat vermillion, bsb and trigger. Disappointed, to say the least as we had high hopes for mahi madness, but that's fishin'.
