Picked up the boat this morning ran it down from Topsail. What a difference in performance and feel. Running 3500 rpm's turning 25.6 mph burning 12 gph. Looking forward to puting some hours onto her now.

But of course with me nothing can go simple. I'm coming down the ICW poll number 149 there is a very large (54') sailboat the guy is jumping up and down flagging me down. I slow down pull up to him. There are 2 jet skis on his bow. He has run aground so I tell him to through me some lines I will get him off the bar.
There is a crew of two who really do not speak English very well. I start pulling him off the bar he then starts his motor and puts it in gear, his rudder must be jammed because he has no steering. In the meantime he is circling to port. I am yelling over take it out of gear. Captain does not understand. I am trying to get the lines off but he keeps circling.
By the time I get one line off my swim platform is along his hull. The weight of his boat breaks 3 of my swim platform supports. I finally get the lines off.
Captain tells me he will pay for the repair with cash. He says he needs to deliver this boat to Miami. First thing I tell him is no way. I want his information. He hands me his Passport from Italy. Boy this is really getting good. I get all of his info. I ask him who he transporting the boat for he tells me Florida Yacht. So I get their phone number. I told him he is going the wrong way, he tells me he was going out Carolina Beach Inlet. I told him he can't get this boat out there. I told him to head north and go out Masonboro Inlet. I start to pull away and see him going in circles. Apparently his rudder was jammed.
I called Tow Boat, they said unless they call they can do nothing and told me to call the Coast Guard. I get the CG on the radio and tell them what is happening. I keep looking back watching this 54' sailboat doing 360's. I asked the CG if they needed me to stand by the replied negative.
So I am now on my way again I called the people in Florida and explain what has happened. The gentleman in Florida was very apologetic and told me they will take care of the repair.
I told him about "Dumb and Dumber" running this boat and that I directed them not to use CBI, and that I was watching them doing 360's. Also that the CG was notified. I stopped at Bel Hart they will do the repairs. It does not seem very major does not look like any hull damage. Attached are pictures of the sail boat and my swim platform. Notice the slick water behind the sail boat. You can see that he is going in circles.
Never a dull moment, happy I was able to help. But as they say "no good deed goes unpunished.

If it won't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all. Gloom, despair and agony on me. Glad you are back on the water and all are safe.

That reference was for you and your boat issues. I'm busy now cutting corn mazes for another few weeks and then I need some Salt Water Therapy.

Last night I received a message from Florida Yacht asking for a report of the incident. So they could forward it to the company that supplied the crew to transport the boat. I sent this:

Paul,
I will try to be as detailed as possible. I was traveling South on the inter coastal waterway. The boat in question was flagging me down. He already had two jet skis in front of him. There was no way they would get him off the bar. I pulled ahead one of the crew threw me 2 lines. I tied him to my stern cleats and proceeded to pull him off of the bar. He then put his vessel in gear and it started to turn to port. It seemed that his helm was jammed. He was unable to move his wheel. I was yelling to him to take his boat out of gear. Either he did not understand or was too panicked to respond. In any case I am trying to take his lines off my boat. He is still turning to port. I was able to take off his port line. I am trying to get his stbd line off of my stbd stern cleat. His boat is still turning to port. My only other option was to turn hard to stbd and add forward headway, I felt this would have caused extensive damage to his vessel because of my bow sprit and anchor. So I continue my effort to loosen his port line. His hull winds up coming over the port corner of my swim platform. At that point the captain takes the boat out of gear. We raft up my stbd side to his port side. He tells me he is making a delivery. I told the captain that I want his information. He gave me his Italian Passport. I wrote down his information and asked where he was delivering too. He told me Miami. I explained he was going the wrong way. He told me the chart showed an inlet about 2 miles to the south. I explained that he could not take his vessel out Carolina Beach inlet. The inlet is very narrow and not stable. I told the captain to head north about 5 miles to Masonboro Inlet which is much wider, has both north and south jetties and is a lot safer. I asked who he was delivering for. He told me Florida Yachts. I then asked for your information which he did give me. He also offered to pay cash for the damage. I refused because I had no idea what the damage was. I saw that he was having steerage issues and yelled over to take his boat out of gear and drop his anchor. He did not respond, he was going in circles. I then called Tow Boat US to see if they could lend assistance. I was told unless the vessel called them, they could not lend a hand. They suggested I contact the Coast Guard. I radioed the Coast Guard gave them his coordinates and explained the situation. Being they were not in any imminent danger I continued south. Looking back they were still circling but were still within the channel boundaries. That is about the time that I called you from my cell phone and explained the incident. So beside yourself the incident was reported to Tow Boat US and Coast Guard Sector, North Carolina. I doubt if Tow Boat logged the incident but I am sure the Coast Guard has. If you need any further information please feel free to call me 631-834-4511

Thank you,
Barry Turano

This morning I received a phone call from Reliance Yacht Management in the UK. wanting to know if I were agreeable to have them pay Bell Hart directly. Sure I have no problem, would actually be easier for me. They sent a message to Bell Hart they agreed to send the invoice to Reliance. I just came back from Bell Hart. My boat is all back together waiting for the sealant to dry. I will have it back tomorrow.

A very happy ending. I must say I am really impressed as to how all parties were so professional in their actions on all sides. Now it is time to start fishing.
