As I see the heart ache of this world I miss the isolation of a submerged life aboard a submarine. Yes we were in a boat designed to sink to the oceans depths. We never thought about the 100's of things that could go wrong. We were qualified to fight fires and flooding. We relied on each other to do our jobs well. But there was a peacefulness to it. No internet, cell phones, papers, TV or cable. We could think a clear thought and sleep the sleep of the dead. This week more than most I miss just being underway.

I'm sorta like Barry, although not on a sub the peace of mind on duty with ones that you trusted to have your 6 gave the peace to sleep well, think about home and family... I can't imagine non-vets comprehinding the bond / trust created between we that serve ..........just talking out loud ,,,thanks Jason ;; Barry

My time was a cake walk compared to those that came before me, and especially those who served in direct combat. My hat always is off to those guys on the old boats and the men and women who've been shot at on a daily basis in the numerous "hot wars".

3 more dead this morning in.....wait for it...Niger.... and for what??? Bring our guys home from all these senseless wars and conflicts and combat actions and whatever the Generals are calling war these days. Shameful.

I was in a air defense unit in Germany. Really boring most of the time. But served with some of America's finest people. God Bless all in service and all who served.
