This MSIB provides guidance concerning mariner credentials and medical certificates and the action being
taken by the Coast Guard due to the novel coronavirus and the disease it causes (COVID-19). We are doing
this in keeping with national guidance to meet the challenge of this disease and in response to a number of
questions and concerns raised by the maritime industry and mariners.

National Endorsements: Merchant Mariner Credentials (MMC) and Medical Certificates (National
Endorsements only) that expired between March 1, 2020 and July 31, 2020 are extended until 31 October
2020. Mariners who are actively working on expired credentials that meet the expiration criteria must carry
the expired credential with a copy of this notice.

With the hard times that seem to be before us, I thought I would offer this up as well.

There is a way to make your license inactive without losing it, if you decide it is to much to keep up all the requirements at this time.

I did this years ago, and I doubt I will ever reactivate it, but at least I can if I choose to. Getting a little long in the tooth to run charters any more.

Not sure if anything has changed, but it is just a matter of filling out sea time forms, physical etc....... and away you go.

Link to the initial form is below.

I would suggest calling the Coast Guard in Charleston before you proceed to make sure this is the proper form. I found it online and definitely do not want to steer anyone wrong.

Hope everyone stays safe in all this mess.

Bobby
